Week 13 NFL Recap by Rainey Featured

It was turkey week folks and we had a few bonus games on that day. I did get a chance to watch all 3 of them, well, I did stop to eat dinner during the Pittsburgh game and watched a movie instead. I saw enough to know that even the coaches get in on the dirty tricks. I'm not saying any names Coach Tomlin...

MNF: 11/25/2013:

SAN FRANCISCO 49'ERS VS. WASHINGTON REDSKINS.

I don't know about anyone else but watching the Redskins & 49'ers is not as exciting as it was last year. The 49'ers did beat the Redskins, 27-6. The buzz wasn't about the Redskins losing season, it's all about RGIII, still. After this beating, even opponents say it's time for RG3 to sit. I personally felt he came back to early and he may have done his body, more harm than good. RG3 failed to lead his team to a TD for the first time in college or the NFL. RG3 was sacked 4 times and hit repeatedly while throwing for only 127 yards and running for only 22 more. He really has skinny legs, he should be careful. The Coach for the Redskins, Shanahan used words like "dominated", "disappointed: and "embarrassed" to sum up his team's performance, but never took accountability himself for the loss. He is such a loser, just ask the Redskin fans, they reallyyyyy don't like that guy. (Monday night's performance was the first time any Redskins offense finished under 200 total yards and didn't score a TD since 2003). To recap the game, Washington only scored in the 2nd Qtr, that was it. Kap threw for 235 yds & 3 TD's & Boldin had 5 receptions for 94 yds & 2 TD's. RG3 threw for 118 yds & 0 TD's. No other stats are worth mentioning in this game. Kaepernick has been operating the league's least-productive passing this season but on Monday night he found his groove.  I wonder how long will he keep it.

TNF: 11/28/2013 X Turkey Day = 3 GAMES

lions packers

GM:1: GREEN BAY PACKERS VS. THE DETROIT LIONS:
I already knew the deal on this one, GB has not done much of anything except probably make cheese since Rodgers has been gone. The Lions, slap, turned over and cooked the Packers, 40-10. In the early part of the game, I said to myself, self, The Lions are going to let GB win this game. Stafford turned the ball over a few times and Bush did once. But instead of crumbling, both players bounced back and the Lions put together a convincing win in what was a awful start. The Packers have a 5 game win less streak for the first time since 2008. A.J. Hawk of the Packers said, "We're not used to anything like this, not on this team, this is something that is going to make a lot of guys on this team think, and that's good.  We need to find some answers because they just ran the ball down our throats." Stafford threw for 330 yds, 3 TD's, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble. Morgan Burnett of the Packers returned that fumbler for a score to give the Packers an early lead 10-3 in the 2nd Qtr. That's was about all the excitement they could muster up. C.J. had 6 receptions for 101 yds and a 20 yd TD, that put the Lions up 24-10 early in the 3rd Qtr. Bush finished with 117 yds rushing & 65 yds receiving.  Detroit gained 561 yards and gave up just 126. SMH. Matt Flynn became the 4th QB for GB since Rodgers has been out, he didn't do to well this trip with the Lions. He was sacked 7 times, ouch .  Flynn threw for 139 yds, 2 interceptions & 2 fumbles. A far cry from his 2011 game against the Lions where he threw for 480 yds & 6 TD's in a 45-41 win over Detroit.  I wonder if Sitton wants to take back that comment he made earlier that the Lions & their coach were dirt bags & scum. hummmm, silence is golden sometimes, in this case, it was priceless cuz he paid for those remarks.

GM:2:
OAKLAND RAIDERS VS. DALLAS COWBOYS:
I guess Dallas said, no win, no Turkey. They came out and played for their meal and took Oakland down 31-24. The Cowboys were down 21-7 in the 2nd Qtr with less than 2 minutes remaining in the half.  5 Completions later, Murray scored with 10 seconds left before halftime and that was all she wrote. Tony Romo was sick from the night before thanksgiving, but his top two running backs were there to help out. Demarco Murray ran for 3 TD's & backup Lance Dunbar led Dallas with a career high 82yds rushing. The Raiders have dropped no less than 5 games that were winnable. Matt McGloin, who by the way was an undrafted rookie QB made his 3rd career start and did pretty good. I was like, who is this guy?  From where I was sitting in the 1st half, it look like he was taking the Cowboys down. But the 2nd half told the story. His offense stalled in the 2nd half and for the 11th season straight, the Raiders would go without a winning season. They finished with 50 yards rushing, 1 more than their season low while the cowboys had 144 yards on the ground, their second best total of the year. Romo threw for 225 yds & 1 TD. Murray had 17 carries for 63yds & 3 TD's. Dunbar had 12 carries for 63 yds. Dez Bryant had 7 catches for 61 yds which included a TD.  McGloin threw for 255 yds, converted 5 straight 3rd downs with passes on a pair of TD drives in the 2nd QTR & 1 interception. Holmes had 7 receptions for 136 yds. Jennings had 17 carries for 35 yds & 2 TD's. I am sure Dallas Turkey was much more tastier than Oakland's Turkey, which probably tasted more like crow. Cowboys are now 7-5

GM:3:
 PITTSBURGH STEELERS VS. BALTIMORE RAVENS:

This was the last but not the least game on Turkey Day. OK, ok, I did not see all of it, but 2 1/2 games out of 3 ain't bad. The Ravens won this won 22-20. But again, we had some controversy served up people. So, we all know by now the antics that coach Tomlin threw into the mix.  Tomlin said bump a Turkey, he wants the game. So he slyly stepped into the path of Baltimore Kick-off returner, Jacoby Jones, who by the way was on jets and jumped out of the way at the last second. This caused Jones to shift his run a little bit. Some say he would have scored had that not happened we may never know. But what we do know is this. For his troubles and losing the game to boot, Tomlin was fined 100K and a possible draft pick in the upcoming draft.  Was it really worth all of that Mike, really?  He said, it was not on purpose, he wasn't wrong, he's sorry. He had the biggest smile I have ever seen on his face after that little "accident."  Baltimore also held Pittsburgh scoreless for the 1st half. Joe Flacco threw for 251 yds & 1 TD. Torrey Smith added 6 receptions for 93yds & 1 TD. Big Ben threw for 257yds & 2 TD's. LeVon Bell had 16 carries for 73yds & 1 TD, while Miller added 8 receptions for 86yds.

NFC NORTH:

Detroit Lions: 7-5:

You already read about the lashing the Lions laid on the GB Packers, 40-10 in the Turkey Day TNF, GM 1 recap.

Chicago Bears: 6-6:

SMH, as soon as I have joy in my heart, a glimmer of hope that we gonna be alright then this happens. My Bears lost to the Minnesota Vikings 23-20 in OT. Clearly, the story here was just, hell, I don't even have an excuse for this one. First, I would like to know why we did a FG after a 2nd down?  The only reasoning that the coach had was that he did not want to get a crazy call or something happen where they would lose the ball on 3rd down. Now, I've been a BEARS fan for a long time and I don't everrrrrr remember us trying a FG attempt on 3rd down. This was just another blunder. We had only 2, 3rd down conversions out of 11 chances, 246 rushing yards allowed by our defense, 5 sacks on the QB, I bet McCown is starting to feel like he is Cutler for real now. Then you add 25 penalty yards in OT and a missed 45 yd FG by Gould.  Add that all up folks and you come up with a 23-20 loss to the Vikings. I don't blame this loss on Gould, we had total lead of the game going into the 4th QTR, 20-10, there was no way we should have blown that. That's a shame that the loss took the spot light off of Alshon Jeffery 12 receptions for 249yds & 2 TD's. This is only the 4th game in which a BEARS WR has broken 200 yards in team history & Jeffery has 2 of them. McCown as usual held up his end with 355yds & 2 TD's. Matt Cassel threw for 243yds & 1 TD while Adrian Peterson had 35 carries for 211yds and Jennings wrapped it up with 7 receptions for 78yds & 1 TD. Excuse me for a moment. I have to get down on my knees and tell Santa & pray at the same time and ask for a playoff spot. So I'm done with this recap.

Green Bay Packers: 5-6:

Same story here, GB lost to the Lions 40-10. Read about it in the Turkey Day TNF recap. To add insult to injury, Rodgers is NOT cleared to play this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Minnesota Vikings: 3-8:

Yeah, you read it already. The Vikings beat the BEARS 23-20 in OT. For you Viking fans, I am sure you will read it more than once in the BEARS game recap.

NFC EAST:

Dallas Cowboys: 7-5:

By now you have read about the win the Cowboys 31-24 win over the Oakland Raiders in the Turkey Day TNF, GM2 recap.

Philadelphia Eagles: 7-5:

The Eagles are soaring up there with the Cowboys. They added another notch to their win column with their 24-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals. They have improved 5-1 with Nick Fliles at the helm.  I did not see this game but looking at the stats, it was pretty clean cut, close to the edge and the last man standing won. They pretty much traded 7 pts per qtr. Arizona did not score at all in the 1st Qtr & the Eagles did likewise in the 4th Qtr. It was the 10pt, 2nd Qtr by the Eagles that won this game. Foles threw for 237 yds & 3 TD's. Palmer threw for 302 yds & 3 TD's. Floyd added 5 receptions for 99yds & 1 TD. No other stats worth mentioning in this game.

New York Giants: 5-7:

The Giants have come a long way from being what, 0-6?  They beat the Washington Redskins, 24-17.  The game was tied 14-14 going into halftime. Washington took the lead by a FG in the 3rd Qtr while the Giants didn't score. I guess at that point, little Manning said he wasn't having it. The Giants scored 10pts in the 4th Qtr and held the Redskins to 0 pts. Thus you have the 24-17 score. I guess Eli is making where he can at least go to the family functions this holiday season and hold his head up. Manning threw for 235yds & 1 TD. Cruz added 80yds to the mix.  RGIII threw for 207yds & 1TD and get this, had the most rushing yds for the Redskins in this game. He had 12 carries for 88yds. What is doing, passing the ball to himself and running. He is a runner. Laugh people, I thought that was funny.

Washington Redskins: 3-9:

You read it in the NYG game recap.  They lost to the Giants 24-17. But who isn't beating the Redskins these day?  With a 3-9 record, pretty much everybody has taken a turn.  Before you BEAR haters say, "they beat the BEARS", I'm taking that away from you and saying it first! LOL. So now we got that out in the open, read the recap on this loss in the Giants game recap.

NFC SOUTH:

New Orleans Saints: 9-2:

Saint's had a bye Sunday, but will play the Seattle Seahawks on MNF, 12/2/13. That game will be recapped in WEEK 14 UPDATE.

Carolina Panthers: 9-3:

And the beat of the Panthers goes on. Yep, 8 in a row with the win over Tampa Bay, 27-6. This was a no brainer. There was never any doubt how this would turn out. Tampa Bay scored 6 pts in the 1st Qtr. That's it, nothing else to write about for them. They went the next 3 Qtrs with out so much as a whimper. Carolina had 20 1st downs to the Bucs 10. That pretty much tells the story for me. Newton threw for 263yds & 2 TD's, wait, he wasn't done there. He had 5 carries for 68yds rushing w/ 1 TD. Greg Olsen contributed 5 receptions for 85yds. Glennon threw for 180yds & 0 TD's. Rainey, not me, lol, had 17 carries for 63yds & Jackson added 3 receptions for 75yds. The Panthers 8 game winning streak is a franchise record.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3-9:

Read about the season ending game, which was more like 3 games ago, for the Buccaneers.  They lost to Cam Newton & Company, 27-6.

Atlanta Falcons: 3-9:

Welly, well well. Will wonders never cease?  Atlanta won a game people, well their 3rd game in this forgettable season. They beat the Buffalo Bills, 34-31 in OT. By the end of the 1st half, the score was tied 17-17. At the end of regulation, the score was 31 all. Atlanta won with a 36yd FG by Matt Bryant. Matt Ryan threw for 311yds & 1 TD. Steven Jackson had 23 carries for 84yds rushing & 2 TD's. White chimed in with 10 receptions for 143yds. Now they wanna add some stats at the end of the season. EJ Manuel threw for 210yds & 1 TD. C.J. Spillner wanted to join the party with 15 carries for 149yds & 1 TD.

NFC WEST:

Seattle Seahawks: 10-1:

The Seahawks had a bye Sunday, but will play the New Orleans Saints on MNF, 12/2/13.  That will be recapped in WEEK 14 UPDATE.

San Francisco 49'ers: 8-4:

The 49'ers took on the St. Louis Rams and came out on top with a 23-13 win. From checking out the score, it was pretty much SF game from start to finish. Kaepernick threw for 275yds & 1TD. Boldin added 9 receptions for 98yds. Kellen Clemens threw for 218yds & 1TD. Stacy added a moderate 19 carries for 72yds. What I find amazing is that Kap actually threw for more than 100+ yards, he actually broke 200+ yds, that's INCREDIBLE. I bet he really kissed his bicep after that game.

Arizona Cardinals: 7-5:

By now, you have read about the Cardinals 24-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Eagles game recap.

St. Louis Rams: 5-7:

Read about the Ram's loss to the 49'ers, 23-13, just scroll back up a game or two.

AFC NORTH:

Cincinnati Bengals: 8-4:

The Bengals went on another tear and beat the San Diego Chargers, 17-10. They hold 1st place in a firm grip in the AFC North and made it even tighter with this win. This was a very low scoring game which some say the score indicates that it was a good game. Andy Dalton threw the winning 21yd TD to A.J. Green late in the 3rd Qtr, he was wide open and that was pretty much it. That combined with the Bengals out scoring the Chargers 10-3 in the 2nd half pretty much sealed the deal.  There is really no contenders for the Bengals in the AFC North except for the Ravens. But that would take a combination of losses for the Bengals and wins for the Ravens. I don't see that happening.  I am wrong once every 5 years, so this may be that 5th year.

Baltimore Ravens: 6-6:

I know you read about the Ravens win over the Steelers in the Turkey Day TNF, GM3 recap. You couldn't help but have read it if you are now reading this. Will they catch the Bengals?

Pittsburgh Steelers: 5-7:

Same things as above in the Ravens recap. The Ravens beat them 22-20. Read about how Coach Tomlin tried to sideline the Ravens win in the Turkey Day TNF, GM3 recap.

Cleveland Browns: 4-8:

Man, first LeBron leaves Cleveland now the Browns get beat by the Jaguars 32-28, that just makes it hurt even more, I am sure. Try as the might, the Browns just can't seem to get it going and turn the season around. If they had any hopes, it's certainly gone with us going into WEEK 14. Cleveland played 7 ups and that's all they scored each Qtr. The Jaguars  scored 20pts in the 1st half and added 12 more in the 4th Qtr. I think Cleveland should just hang a sign on the stadium, "GONE FISHING" and call it a season. Chad Henne threw for 195yds & 2 TD's. Jones-Drew added 23 carries for 77yds rushing. Brandon Weeden threw for 370yds & 3 TD's, almost 400yds, that's a lot of work for a loss. Josh Gordon made a showing with 10 receptions for 261yds & 2 TD's.

AFC EAST:

New England Patriots: 9-3:

I don't know but I am pretty sure that the Patriots didn't come prepared for this fight. In a game that I thought the Pats would dominate even blowout the Texans, turned out to be what well may have been Texans last stand, just not at the Alamo. Houston took an early lead in the 1st Qtr, 10-7. At halftime, I am sure they were on cloud 9, leading the Patriots 17-7, holding the Pats to 0 pts in the 2nd Qtr. After that, the Texans could not score anything over 7pts per Qtr. When the dust settled the Pats won, 34-31 and they are dang lucky to pull this one out. The Pats had 28 1st down to Houston's 19. The Pats had 365 passing yds to Houston 264, over 100 yds. Every  thing else was pretty much equal. The Patriots are closers 95% of the time and that's what they did, shut the 2nd half down on the Texans, outscoring them 27-14. Brady threw for 371yds & 2 TD's while is right hand man Gronkowski pulled in 6 receptions for 127yds & 1 TD. Keenum threw for 272yds, 0 TD's. Ben Tate added 22 carries for 102yds rushing & 3 TD's, he got his. Johnson brought up the end for the Texans with 8 receptions and 121yds. Happy trails to the Texans.

Miami Dolphins: 6-6:

This seemed to be a no-brainer for the Dolphins, bout time. They easily took down the Jets, 23-3. The Dolphins knew they had to win this game and their postseason chances look much better. If they had lost, they too would probably have needed to put out a gone fishing sign. Neither Miami or the Jets scored in the 1st Qtr. In the 2nd Qtr, Miami scored 6 and went into the half 6pts up. The Dolphins took control in the 2nd half, outscoring the Jets, 17-3. The Dolphins are still the only team in the league to score feweer tan 28pts in every game, but they keep on pushing. It's doesn't matter how many points you score, if 27 or less gives you a win, go for it. Tannehill threw for 331yds & 2 TD's. Brian Hartline did his job, adding 9 receptions for 127yds & 1 TD. Simms, who came in for G. Smith, had 79yds  & 0 TD's. That's all folks.

New York Jets: 5-7:

You can read about this 23-3 loss to the Dolphins directly above. Enjoy.

Buffalo Bills: 4-8:

You can read about the Bills loss to the Falcons, 34-31 in OT. Just go back and check out Atlanta's game recap.

AFC SOUTH:

Indianapolis Colts: 8-4:

I really thought they had turned in their cleats a while back, I guess not. With a definite hold on the AFC South, the Colts are not going anywhere, just yet. Luck did have a short meltdown after taking down the Broncos, but looks like he's back. The Colts took an early 12-7 halftime lead and didn't let up, stayed the course and won this one, 22-14. The stats were pretty much on even ground with the Colts up the Titans a few yards here in there. The end results are always what matters most and for the Colts, it's a win. They had 5 FG's in this game. Luck threw for 200yds & 0 TD's. Don Brown had 14 carries for 54yds & 1 TD. Fitzpatrick, (with a name like that, you figure he would have the luck of the Irish), threw for 201 yds & 1 TD. Chris Johnson added 18 carries for 69yds rushing. Washington brought it on in with 5 receptions for 81yds.

Tennessee Titans: 5-7:

Justttt wrote about their loss to the Colts. Check it out in that game recap.

Jacksonville Jaguars: 3-9:

Say what, the Jaguars added another one in the win column and solely leaves the Texans to accept the WORST team/season in the NFL this year. Read about their WIN over the Cleveland Browns in that games recap.

Houston Texans: 2-10:

They have been deemed the WORST team in the NFL this year. Read about their 34-31 loss to the Patriots in the Pats game recap. They gave it a last stand but it was not to be. Even the Jaguars and Tampa Bay did not end up this bad. There is still time Houston, to catch that train out of town. LOL.

AFC WEST:

Denver Broncos: 10-2:

The Broncos didn't leave this game until they said to the Chiefs, "who's your daddy now?"  LMAO. As we can see in this game, Peyton Manning does not discriminate, if you are playing WR for the Broncos and you get open, then look for the ball from Manning. Eric Decker took full advantage of that in their 35-28 win over their division Rival the K.C. Chiefs. Payton rewarded Decker all afternoon, when he was done, Peyton threw for 5 TD's and 4 of them was to Decker.  The Chiefs jumped to an early lead, 21-7, but the Broncos answered with 28 pts. The Chiefs moved down field, but Alex Smith's pass to D. Bowe in the end zone on 4&4 with 1:45 left fell incomplete. That allowed the Broncos to run out the clock. Coach Andy Reid said, "Hard fought game, two good football teams playing each other and it came right down to the end." Manning threw for 403yds & 5 TD's, does his arm EVER get tired? Ball had 13 carries for 117yd rushing. Decker had 8 receptions for a career high 174 yds & 4 TDs. Alex Smith threw for 293yds & 2 TD's, not bad for a days work. Charles had 19 carries for 93yds. Denver has clearly stated who owns this division. They have beaten K.C. twice.

Kansas City Chiefs: 9-3:

Read about the 2nd spanking the Chiefs took from Peyton and the Broncos. The recap is directly above.

San Diego Chargers: 5-7:

No doubt you have already read about the Chargers loss to the Bengals 17-10 in the Bengals game recap. Nothing more needs to be said. Oakland Raiders: 4-8: This game on Turkey Day was well in the beginning of the update. So I know you read it in the Turkey Day TNF, GM2 where the loss to Dallas, 31-24.
