NFL Weekly Update By Rainey Featured

So here we go, WEEK 9 already done, the season is going way too fast for me.  For better or for worst, here is the deal for WEEK 9.

 MNF: 10/28/13:
Seattle Seahawks took on the St. Louis Rams.  The Rams had the lead one time in the game, that was in the very 1st Qtr. After that, it was a Seattle. The icing on the cake came in the 3rd Qtr for Seattle when Wilson connected with Golden Tate for a 80yd pass/TD. Seattle was only leading the game by 1 point at that time, after that, they never looked back. The Rams lived off FG's in this game, 3 of them to be exact. Wilson had 139 passing yds & 2 TD's for Seattle while Clemens had 158 passing yds & 0 TD's.

TNF: 10/31/13:
The night of the ghost & goblin's and when it was all said & done, the Miami Dolphins scared the Cincinnati Bengals, 22-20. I thought for sure that the Bengals would win this one. There went my points in the pool. The Dolphins had every intention on winning this game. Neither teamed scored in the 1st Qtr. By the end of the 2nd Qtr, it was Miami 10, Bengals 3. It was a tight game, Miami was leading 17-10 going into the 4th Qtr. By the end of regulation, it was tied 20-20, OT time. In OT, Andy Dalton was sacked by Cameron Wake in the End Zone for safety, giving the Dolphins 2 pts. and the win. (Safety: is a scoring play which results in two points being awarded to the scoring team. Safeties can be scored in a number of ways, in this instance the ball carrier, Dalton of the Bengals, was tackled in his own end zone). Dalton ended the day with 338 passing yds & 0 TD's. Tannehill had 208 passing yds & 0 TD's.

NFC NORTH:
Green Bay Packers: 5-2:
The Packers had a bye too. They played the Bears on MNF 11/4/13. This will be in my WEEK 10 update.

Detroit Lions: 5-3:
Detroit had a bye this week as well. Nothing to recap. Look for them @ DA BEARS this Sunday

Chicago Bears: 4-3:
DA BEARS had a bye this week. They play the GBP on MNF 11/4/13. To be impartial and fair, I will not write about that game until WEEK 10.

Minnesota Vikings: 1-7:
The Vikings did not have a bye this week even though the probably wish they had. They played & lost to the Cowboys 27-23. That ain't saying a whole lot for Dallas, to beat a 1-6 team by a FG. But, as I always say, a WIN is a WIN. Dallas tried hard to give this game away. They played sloppy to me and had a bunch of stop penalties. It was sheer luck they won. The Qtr that saved Dallas was the 3rd Qtr, where they scored 14pts, other than that, they should have lost this one. They traded FG's in the 1st Qtr.  Minnesota even had the lead after the 2nd Qtr. In the 3rd Qtr, Nick Hayden fumble recovery in the End Zone & a FG put Dallas up 10-20 but the Vikings added a 31yd TD pass to Kyle Rudolph and the score at the end of the 3rd was 20-17, Dallas.  In the 4th, Adrian P. scored a TD and with 5:40 left in the game, the Vikings were winning 23-20. But Romo had the last say and with a 7yd pass to D. Harris and a FG, the Cowboys pulled it out, 27-23. Romo had 337 passing yds & 2 TD's. Ponder had 235 passing yds & 1 TD. The Vikings were close, but close don't cut it.

NFC SOUTH:

New Orleans Saints: 6-2:  At first I was shocked that the Saints lost to the Jets, but then, I started thinking, with the teams that are in the NFC South, N.O. can't brag much about a 6-1 record going into this game. The Jets beat the Saints, 26-20. I only saw recaps of this game. But what I do know is that the clinching Qtr for the Jets was the 2nd Qtr when they outscored the Saints, 17-7. After that, they both only scored FG's in the 3rd & 4th Qtrs. Brees did get a 51yd TD pass to Jimmy Graham but that was is brag for the day. Graham ended the day with 9 receptions & 116 yds, 2TD's. He had a good day. Brees threw for 382 yds & 2TD's & Smith had 115yds & 0 TD's. Brees can also add to his stats that he became the 4th QB to record at least 10 straight seasons with 20 or more TD passes. I don't think he cares since he lost the game. I told them to watch out, the Panthers are on the Prowl.

Carolina Panthers: 5-3: They are on a mission. I do believe this is Carolina's 3rd win a row with the spanking of the Falcons, 34-10. The game started with the Panthers drawing first blood in the very 1st Qtr, with a TD. They pretty much owned the game at this point even though ATL scored 10pts in the 2nd QTR. They hung pretty tight and at the end of 3 Qtrs, the score is 17-10. But Cam decided to put a stop to the closeness and the Panthers scored 17pts in the 4th Qtr & ATL had 0. You do the math folks. The end result was the 34-10 spanking. Newton threw 249 passing yds & 1 TD. Ryan threw for 219 yds & 1 TD. Brees better watch out. The Panthers are coming for his spot.

Atlanta Falcons: 2-6: Do I have to say it again? The lost to the Panthers, read all about it in the Panthers recap.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 0-8: Just goes to show you. when you are 0-7, you ain't got nothing to lose and TB looks like they put up a good fight but could not get out of that loss column. They lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 27-24 in OT.  TB actually lead going into the 4th qtr 24-17. But, the QB for Seattle, Russell Wilson was not going to be the first team to lose to TB.  He threw the game-tying TD pass in the closing minutes, 1:51 to be exact, sending this game in to OT. With a 27yd FG from Steven H. The Seahawks could breath easy and walk away with the win 27-24.

NFC EAST:
Dallas Cowboys: 5-4: Read the recap on this game in Minnesota's recap. Dallas won 27-23.

Philadelphia Eagles: 4-5: The Eagles and the Oakland Raiders. This looks to have been an easy win for the Eagles 49-20. Let's break it down and see what happened. Damm, story over, here it is in a nutshell. The 1st Qtr were ok, nothing to write home about. The 2nd Qtr, Philly scored 21pts to Oakland's 10pts then turn around in the 3rd Qtr and scored 21-0 on the Raiders. Oakland scored the last 7 of the game in the 4th Qtr. BUT, this is what reallyyy happened. QB Nick Foles threw for 406 passing yds & 7 TD's in ONE game, and he tied an NFL record to boot. Who does that? Anybody seen Michael Vick???

Washington Redskins: 3-5: This was probably a decent game to watch but I was recovering from partying with my family at our sister Cynthia's wedding reception. In a word, I was tired and caught bits and pieces of most games.  Checking out the Qtr by Qtr stats, San Diego was actually winning this game. In the 1st Qtr neither team scored. 2nd Qtr, SD outscored WA 14-7. But by the 3rd, RGIII said he better get on his game and they scored 7pts in the 3rd & WA scored 0. At this point they were tied 14-14. They both scored 10pts in the 4th Qtr and you guessed it. 24-24.  In OT, Darrel Young's 4 yd run for a TD for 6 pts, game overrrr man. RGIII threw for 291 yds & 0 TD's. Rivers threw for 341 yds & 2 TD's. SD had it, but they let it go.

New York Giants: 2-6:
The NYG had a bye this week. Look for them @ Oakland this Sunday

NFC WEST:
Seattle Seahawks: 8-1: I don't think they worried about this game. They beat Tampa Bay, 27-24. But did have to do it in OT. Read about it in Tampa Bay recap. I did not know Seattle had an 8-1 record. It just slipped my mind. But I did pick them in my FB Pool.

San Francisco 49'ers: 6-2:
The 49'ers had a bye this week. Look for them to host the Carolina Panthers Sunday.

Arizona Cardinals: 4-4:
The Cardinals had a bye as well. Look for them to host Houston this Sunday

St. Louis Rams: 3-6:
The Rams lost on 10/28-MNF and then come back on Sunday and lose to the Titans 28-21. Not much of a game, stats wise. The Rams actually had the lead for 3 whole Qtrs. But they were outscored in the 4th Qtr, 14-17. Locker for Tenn. threw for 185 yds & 0 TD's & Clemens for St. Louis threw for 210 yds & 1 TD.

AFC NORTH:
Cincinnati Bengals: 6-3:
Read the recap of this game in the TNF recap. The Bengals got scared into a loss on this Halloween Night, 22-20 in OT.

Cleveland Browns:
 4-5:
The Browns took on their division brothers, The Baltimore Ravens. This game was fairly close. Neither guys are doing great, but Cleveland is a game a game ahead. The most yards gained in this game was a 22yd FG in the 4th. There was even a 1yd TD, but hey, 6pts is 6pts. All it came down to in this came was who had the ball & scored last. The Browns did and won it 24-18.  Flacco threw for 250yds & 2 TD's & Campbell threw for 262 yds & 3 TD's. I am not seeing how the Ravens go from Super Bowl Champs to 3-5. I know Ray Lewis didn't win that SB by himself.

Baltimore Ravens: 3-5:

Just go up a line folks and read the Cleveland recap on how they won this game against the Ravens 24-18.

Pittsburgh Steelers: 2-6:

Well, try as they do, week in & week out, the Steelers just can't get it together. I did watch most of this game and I tell you, the Steelers hung in there Qtr for Qtr until the 4th Qtr. In the 1st Qtr Brady threw a 34 yd TD pass to D. Amendola to put them up 7-0. In the 2nd Qtr, the Pats again outscored the Ravens 17-10 & going into the 1/2, the scored 24-10. The Ravens did not take that sitting down & outscored the Pats 14-3 in the 3rd Qtr, going into the 4th Qtr 27-24. They were there man, in the game, until Tom Brady lost his mind. The Pats had 4 TD's in the 4th Qtr, 2 running & 2 passing, which included the 81yd pass to Aaron Dobson. Just like that the Pats score 28pts in the 4th Qtr & that's how you put down a beat down of 55-31. Brady threw for 432yds & 4 TD's & Big Ben threw for 400yds & 4 TD's. I thought for sure the Steelers had this one. Oh well, thank goodness I don't depend on a check from the NFL, though that would be the bomb. :o)

AFC SOUTH:
Indianapolis Colts: 6-2:
The Colts played the Houston Texans. The Colts pulled it out 27-24 to give them a respectable lead in their division. Houston got started right away in the 1st & 2nd Qtr's by outscoring the Colts 21-3. They were on their way to a win but a few things stopped them cold. Luck threw 3 TD passes to WR T.Y. Hilton and with that he had a total 7 receptions & 127yd. With that, Colts had a strong second 1/2 and won it 27-24. Andre Johnson of the Texans had 9 receptions for 229 yds & 3 TD's, he definitely put it all out there for this game, but it did not help. Luck threw for 271yds & 3 TD's & Keenum threw for 350yds & 3 TD's.

Tennessee Titans: 4-4:

Read the recap for the St. Louis Rams and their loss to the Titans 28-21 in the Rams recap.

Houston Texans: 2-6:
Read the recap of the Texans loss to the Colts 27-24, in the Colts recap. Some say that the Texans were out of sync and was worried about their Coach after his collapse when leaving the field. Maybe they were taken out of there game but the important thing is that Coach Kubiak is OK.  Even the papers had the headline: Texans waste big lead after coach Kubiak Collapses. Im just saying.

Jacksonville Jaguars: 0-8:
Lucky rascals, had a bye week, so nothing to recap. Look for them @ Tennessee on Sunday

AFC EAST:
New England Patriots: 7-2:
Read about this beat down in the Pittsburgh Steelers recap.  The Pats won 55-31.

New York Jets: 5-4:
They beat the New Orleans Saints, 26-20. Read about that in the Saints recap.

Miami Dolphins: 4-4:
Read the recap of this game in the TNF recap. Miami won 22-20 in OT against Cincinnati.

Buffalo Bills: 3-6:
This turned out just the way I expected. The Kansas City Chiefs won this one, 23-13. Read about it in the recap for the Chiefs.

AFC WEST:
Kansas City Chiefs: 9-0:
Alrighty, so far they are still doing the thing, not letting nothing get pass them.  The Chiefs beat the Bills 23-13, pretty low scoring game but it was the way the Chiefs got the scores that count. The Bills started off with a 59yd pass to M. Goodwin in the 1st Qtr to make it 7-0 Bills. The bills added a FG & the Chiefs had 1 FG in the 2nd Qtr. The Bills were up 10-3 going into the 1/2. This is where it got ugly, not only did the Chiefs score 20pts in the 3rd & 4th Qtrs, the Bills only scored 3. In almost the start of the 3rd Qtr, Sean Smith had a 100yd interception return, that had to knock the wind out of their sails. Just as they were trying to regroup from that, Tamba Hali had an 11yd fumble return to seal the deal.  Game over, put it in the books.

Denver Broncos: 7-1:
The Broncos had a bye this week. Nothing to recap. Look for them @ San Diego on Sunday.

San Diego Chargers: 4-4:
Read the recap on this game in Washington's recap. SD lost, 30-24 in OT. They had they game, they let it get away.

Oakland Raiders:

After WEEK 9
Still standing as the ONLY undefeated team in the NFL:

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS.

After WEEK 9 -
Still hanging over a cliff without a single win:

*Jacksonville Jaguars - 0-9

*Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 0-8

COME ONE MAN:

Bullying in the NFL. I did not see that one coming. Way to much to write about in this situation.  But from what I see, that Incognito guy can get pretty crazy. Just read up on his college and NFL days. Several teams would not touch him in the draft in 2005, DNDC - (do not draft due to character) that's what was put next to his name. That's all I am going to say about that.

TRIVIA??
Who was the worst team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl? There are 10 on the books.

1 - It was the
2005 PITTSBURGH STEELERS. A few folks that answered this one said they were the WORST team to win a Super Bowl.

Trivia for WEEK 9:

What is the Highest Scoring Game in the NFL, the teams & the year?
