Week 10 NFL Recap by Rainey

What a Sunday, a thrilling WEEK 10. Anybody think they have this whole NFL thing figured out?  I know I don't. THIS is the WEEK I have been waiting for.  To all you Packers fans, I am going to open up that wound again. I was fair & unbiased last week and waited until WEEK 10 to sum up MNF when the BEARS & Packers played.

As I left work Monday, I had plenty of condolences sent my way.  "Sorry Rainey, but the BEARS are going to lose" or "I know you didn't pick the BEARS in the FB pool" and my personal favorite, "I really hope they win for you, Rainey".  Ha! Who had the last laugh on this one?  DA BEARS & THEIR FANS.

MNF 11/4/13:Chicago & Greenbay

This is one of the few games that I just had to have as a win, just to keep my sanity. It was The Chicago Bears against the Green Bay Packers. I took a lot of ribbing about this game on Friday from a few friends, even had an offer to give me some GB gear to wear.  Funny, I don't hear a thing now, not one peep.

Of course I did get the excuse "Rodgers got hurt".  Hey, it was 2nd string QB's against each other and McCown was there to WIN.

It was a really good game. The score went back and forth for a bit. McCown did a great job. We outscored GB 17-19 in the 1st 1/2.  We won the 3rd Qtr 10-7. In the 4th Qtr, we held them to 0 pts, that made all the difference. But, the icing on the cake was the 18 play drive. It was beautiful sight to see, a work of art that was set up by the 1st down we got from taking a chance on 4th & 1.

McCown had 272 passing yds & 2 TD's while back-up QB Wallace had 114yds & 0 TD's.  Rodgers left the game in the 1st Qtr with a left shoulder injury and did not return. He pretty much ran out to say hi and left. I am glad the injury wasn't worse, I never want to see any player get hurt. Shout out to Forte, 24 carries for 125 yds, 1 TD & Marshall, 7 receptions for 107yds, 1 TD. This was the first time since 2007 that DA BEARS won in Lambeau Field. We now have a 3 way tie in the NFC North going into WEEK 11. Stay tuned.

WEEK 11

TNF: 11/7/13:

Minnesota & Washington

Minnesota, who was 1-7 going into this game had nothing to lose. So whatever they had, they put it out there on the field. I switched back & forth on this game, I had several thoughts on why either team would win and I went with Washington. Minnesota came out the winner in this one 34-27. Washington clearly had the lead at 1/2 time, 24-14. Minnesota came back & put an end to that and held the Redskins to 3pts in the 2nd 1/2 while they scored 20. I really thought the Redskins would win it, but it just goes to show you, it is never over until it's 0:00 on the clock in the 4th Qtr.  RGIII threw for 281 passing yds, 3 TD's and Ponder threw for 174 passing yds, 2 TD's. A. Peterson rushed for 2 TD's, ending the day with 20 carries & 75 rushing yards. But they still have long way to go to even make a decent showing. I don't think it's going to happen. Note: Vikings QB Christian Ponder suffered a dislocated shoulder but said he will be ready to play in there next game which is in 10 days.

NFC NORTH:

Detroit Lions: 6-3:
We can stop wondering who would end up on top in this division. It was a 3 way tie and Detroit beat out the Bears & the Packers fair & square and are holding 1st place down without any company. They came to Chicago and when all was said and done, they left Chi town with a 21-19 win. Stafford threw for 219 passing yds & 3 TD's. Cutler threw for 250 passing yds & 1 TD. Reggie Bush pretty much picked up where he left off in the last game with 14 carries & 105 rushing yds. I'm just saying Trestman, this would have been the time to capitalize on GB's misfortune, but nooooooooo, Jay wanted to play. That did little good because he is out again, on a week to week basis.

bears lions

Chicago Bears: 5-4:
Still fussing about the game but at least we are above GB. Come on, give me that at least. Jay Cutler has a high ankle sprain and is week to week. Really, is anyone surprised?  By the 2nd Qtr, he was looking like he was constipated with each move. Now the coach wants to say if he could do it over, he would have pulled Cutler earlier in the game vs. Detroit. No coach, really?  He should not have played at all. Then, to add more misery, Peanut (Tillman) suffered a triceps injury in this game and put on IR, due to return in 8 weeks. In 8 weeks, do we even have that many weeks left in the season?  NO, we don't, so the season is over for Tillman. It was just hard to watch. The two TD's that were called back was a killer. Forte had his lowest output of the year as his running game came to a halt. Quoting Alshon Jeffries, who by the way had 9 receptions for 114yds, "we beat ourselves" and that is exactly what we did. Dunce cap for the Bears goe's to: Matt Slauson who was called for a holding call which in turn, voided out Forte's 9yd TD score. Add on the 14yd pass from Cutler that Jeffries just could not grab. He said he took his eyes off it. Shout out to Conte for his interception, even though nothing became of it. The team lost as a WHOLE and we lost two players to boot. WIN or LOSE, I always got my BEARS back. Nothing can silence me. LOVE HURTS!!! But I gotta keep it real, we blew it.

Green Bay Packers: 5-4:

After losing their QB and the game against Chicago, GB suited up again without their QB Rodgers, only to leave with another lost. They lost to the Eagles, 27-13. I think everyone saw that coming, but we honestly can't take away from the Eagles QB, Nick Foles, he has been on fire and is still HOT!!  The Eagles outscored the Packers 10-3 in the 1st 1/2 of the game and did not let up. They went on to outscore them 17-10 in the 3rd & 4th Qtrs, winning the game 27-13. The back-up QB for GB, S. Wallace went out a groin injury and was relieved by Scott Tolzien. Scott did what he could and threw for 280 passing yds & 1 TD. Foles threw for 228 yds & 3 TD's. Lacy of GB was held to 24 carries & 73 rushing yds while while McCoy with the Eagles 25 carries & 155 rushing yds. After all was said & done in this game, one thing was for sure, Foles is still on fire and the Pack is on their third QB.

Minnesota Vikings: 2-7:

Read about the Vikings 2nd win of the season in the TNF recap.

They beat the Redskins 34-27.

NFC SOUTH:

New Orleans Saints: 7-2:

Wow, what can I say, this was just an unpredictable beating. I knew that N.O. would win the game but to slap them around on SNF for the whole world to see, that's just a shame. The Saints made a mockery of the Cowboys. Not only did the Saints have 40 first downs on the Cowboys, they set a new NFL record. Then you had the fact that Brees threw for 392 passing yds, and 4 TD's and to make matters worse, they piled up 292 rushing yards. The last thing that drove the cross through the Cowboys heart, Rob Ryan was fired by the Cowboys after last season. I guess Rob said, take that Jerry. The Saints haven't loss a night game in the Super dome for more than three seasons, now winning 12 straight home games in prime time, including a pair of playoff games. Dallas was the last team to beat the Saints in the Dome at night on 12/19/09. The Saints ran up a franchise-record 625 yards of total offense, the most the Cowboys have allowed in their storied history. SMH, the Saints held that grudge for a long time.

Carolina Panthers: 6-3:

Now, if you guys recall, in WEEK 7 UPDATE, I said to watch out for the Panthers, they are on the prowl. In what had to be the lowest scoring game I can remember, the Panthers stopped the 49'ers dead in their tracks, 10-9, yes, 10-9. Their time of possession was close with Carolina having the ball 32:03 to the 49'ers 27:57 minutes. So what was the big difference? One little FG. SF outscored the Panthers, 9-7 in the 1st & 2nd Qtr and that's all they would score. Neither team scored in the 3rd Qtr and in the 4th Qtr, K. Graham Gano drills the go-ahead, 53-yd FG and Carolina's defense shuts down the 49'ers. This was the Panther's 5th straight win. Newton threw for 163 passing yds & 0 TD's. Kap, and I still find this amazing, Kap threw for 91 yds & 0 TD's. Not even 100 yards, wow. There was only 1 TD in this game. DeAngelo Williams 27 yd run.  Saints, do you hear any noise at your heels?

Atlanta Falcons: 2-7:

The Falcons just can't get a break. They had to take on the 9-1 Seattle Seahawks, but you $5 I can tell you who won. Yep, you guessed it.  Seattle won very easily 33-10.

The Seahawks scored 23 pts in the 1st half while holding ATL to only 3 pts. It didn't get any better in the second 1/2. ATL scored only 7 pts in the 3rd Qtr while ATL tried to get something going with 7 pts. But it was not meant to be, the were held to 0 pts in the 4th Qtr and Seattle added 7 more to be sure. Game over and pretty much the season for ATL. But they are not alone on that, I'm just saying!!  Russell Wilson threw for 287yds & 2 TDs while Matt Ryan, QB for ATL threw for 172yds and 1 TD.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 0-8:

The Bucs hosted the Miami Dolphins on MNF, 11/11/13. That will be in next week’s NFL UPDATE WEEK 10. Will the Bucs leave the lonely loss column finally?

NFC EAST:

Dallas Cowboys: 5-5:

Read about this beat down bestowed upon Dallas by the Saints, 49-17 in the N.O. game recap.

Romo threw for 128yds & 1 TD. No other outstanding stats to write about.

Philadelphia Eagles: 5-5:

Read about how the Eagles took advantage of GB in this 27-13 win in the GB recap. Chip Kelly keeps saying he is not making a decision on who the starting QB will be, it's week to week. Really, like we can't figure that out. It Foles. Man up Kelly and just call it like it is.

New York Giants: 3-6:

The Giants are out to rack up more wins. That is what they did Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.  The game was pretty much tit for tat from Qtr to Qtr.  The game was won by NY 24-20 when they scored a FG in the 4th and the Raiders did not score at all. Eli Manning threw for 140yds & 1 TD. Pryor, QB for the Raiders threw for 122 passing yds & 0 TD's. Not much more to comment on. The Giants are turning it up a bit but is it too little, too late?

Washington Redskins: 3-6:

Read about the Redskins 34-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the TNF recap.

NFC WEST:

Seattle Seahawks: 9-1

The Seattle Seahawks are dominating the NFC West. This win against the Atlanta Falcons provided the latest evidence. Read the not so surprising outcome to the Seahawks game against the Atlanta Falcons, 33-10. You can check out the recap for the Falcons.

San Francisco 49'ers: 6-3:

Read the recap for the Carolina Panthers for details on the 49'ers loss to the Panthers 10-9. This score reads more like a baseball game.

Arizona Cardinals: 5-4:

Just seems that the Texas teams can't get it going.  First Dallas got spanked by the Saints, then Houston's falls to the Cardinals, 27-24. They were thissss close, if only they had scored in the 3rd Qtr, but they didn't and Houston lost.  Keenum threw for 201 passing yds & 3 TD's and Palmer threw for 241 passing yds & 2 TD's. Nothing more to comment on about this one.

St. Louis Rams: 4-6:

Now, I know, nobody saw this coming. this was a total surprise to me. Here I am thinking, Indy has this one in the bag, that will make them 7-2 and then all hell broke loose.  Clearly the Rams were here to win from the start of the 1st Qtr, outscoring the Colts, 7-0. That was convincing enough so the Rams scored another 21pts in the 2 Qtr

Going into the half, the Rams were up 28 zip. About this time Indy had to be thinking, this ain't looking good and they were right. The Rams came out in the 3rd Qtr and BAMMM#!@, scored another 10pts. The Colts scored 8pts in the 3rd and that would be all she wrote. Neither team scored in the 4th and truth be told, it's a good thing that the Rams didn't or it may have been something like 47-8. Wow, I am sure the Colts are sitting down at this very moment, looking at film and thinking, what the heck just happened? Ya'll got beat dawggggg!!!

AFC NORTH:

Cincinnati Bengals: 6-4:

Week 10 was truly a week of upsets and this is one of them. The Bengals looking pretty good in 1st place, holding on tight in the AFC NORTH. But the last place team in their division the Baltimore Ravens said it's not happening today and they set out to win their 3rd game this season. It was not a beat down but it's still a loss. The Raven's won this divisional match up 20-17, in OT. I watched the 2nd half of this game, but the best part of the game was in the 4th Qtr. The Ravens put 17pts on the board by half time. The 3rd Qtr was uneventful with the Bengals scoring only 3 pts. The 4th Qtr was the game. The Bengals battled back and came behind from a 17-3 deficit, scoring 14pts and holding the Ravens to 0 pts in the 4th. That's not the story.  The story is one of the sweetest hail mary throws I have ever seen. You have GOT to go on you tube and find the post of Andrew Dalton's hail mary, OMG, it was a sight to see. It was a 51yd pass of pure beauty. The Raven's deflected the ball in the end zone and A.J. Green was there to catch it. Just like that, we were into OT. Baltimore drew first blood in OT and thus won the game 20-17. But seeing that pass was just amazing and it was 0:00 left in the 4th when he did it.  That's why I ALWAYS say, it ain't over until there is 0:00 left on the clock in the 4th Qtr. And sometimes, it's not over then. Dalton threw for 274 passing yds with 2 TD's. JF there for 140 passing yds & 2 TD's. A.J. Green of the Bengals had 8 receptions fro 151 yds and 1 TD.  It was thriller, thank you for that Dalton. (p.s. told you it was a the best hail mary ever, it was the play of the week, heard it on ESPN)

Cleveland Browns: 4-5:

The Browns had a bye this weekend. Look for them to go play their brother team, Cincinnati on Sunday, 11/17, 12 noon.

Baltimore Ravens: 4-5:

Read about this Ravens win in the Bengals recap. Ravens one 20-17 in OT.

Pittsburgh Steelers: 3-6:

I didn't watch this one, I saw a minute or two, but I think I turned to another game. The Steeelers needed another win just to feel as if there is a reason for this season. That's exactly what they walked away with against the Buffalo Bills in a 23-10 victory. Buffalo scored first with a FG and that's what they was held to for the 1st half. At the 1/2 we had the Steelers 10-3. The Steelers went on to seal the deal outscoring the Bills 13-7 in the 2nd half. Big Ben threw for 204 passing yds & 1 TD while Manuel for the Bills put up 155 passing yds & 1 TD. Shaun Suisham had 5 FG's in this game, 3 for 3pts & 2 for 1pt. Not bad for a days work. Then there were the trade rumors going around while Big Ben is out there trying to win a game. Both he and his agent said it's complete trash, he is committed to winning a SB with the Steelers. It may be too late this year, but maybe next year.

AFC SOUTH:

Indianapolis Colts:6-3:
Read about the beat down that Indy received from, wait for ittttt, the St. Louis Rams, 38-8. It's in the Rams recap. Wow. Indy's LUCK must have ran out.

Tennessee Titans: 4-5:

You know you HATE to be the team that a 0-8 team gets their first win on. Such was the case for the Titans. Jacksonville Jaguars were 0-8 going into this game. When the dust settled, the Jaguars won 29-27. No big blow out at all. They just went out there and played. I caught some highlights of the game and it looks like it was a pretty good game. The Jaguars came out and scored 10pts in the very first Qtr. By the 2nd Qtr, the titans scored 7 and the Jaguars managed 3 in that qtr. Going into the half it was the Jaguars 13-7. The second half was all Titans pretty much, outscoring the Jaguars 20-16, but the effort was too late.  The scoreless 1st Qtr was the demise to the Titans. They put up a good fight, but it was not to be. The Jaguars forced 4 turnovers and makes 3 red-zone stops. Their QB Jake Locker leaves with a foot injury but Ryan Fitzpatrick enters and throws for 264 passing yds and  2TD's. Nice effort but too late. Henne, QB for Jacksonville threw for 180yd & 0 TD's. Congrats to JJ for their 1st win of the season.

Houston Texans:
2-7:

Read about Houston 27-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in that games recap.

Jacksonville Jaguars:
1-8:
Finally, the Jacksonville Jaguars are out of the lost column and had their first victory. They beat the Titans 29-27. Read about it in the Titans recap.

AFC EAST:

New England Patriots:7-2:

New England had a bye this week.  Look for them to host the San Francisco 49'ers Sunday @ 3:25 pm.

New York Jets: 5-4:

New York took a bye this week as well.  Look for them to take on the Buffalo Bills @ 12 noon Sunday.

Miami Dolphins: 4-4:

This was the 11/11 MNF game which will be recapped on WEEK 11 UPDATE.

But, they will host San Diego this Sunday @ 3:05pm.

Buffalo Bills:
3-7:

Read about the Bills lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 23-10 in the Steelers recap.

AFC WEST:

Kansas City Chiefs: 9-0:

With a bye this week, the Chiefs solely own the undefeated title in the NFL. Look for the Chiefs to head to Denver to make it 10-0 or will the Broncos say, it's not happening and they tie with the Chiefs at 9-1. They play Sunday night on YESSSS Sunday Night Football. Getting my popcorn ready now. And yes, Peyton said he is playing, hurt ankles and all. Don't miss it!!!

Denver Broncos: 8-1:

Peyton and company had a tough fight in this game. Manning was knocked around pretty bad, ankles hurt, limping around and not even thinking about leaving the game, which may not have been a wise decision. They did win this one against the San Diego Chargers 28-20, but what price did they really pay? I read in one article that this is the season for injured QB's and it's certainly looking like it. Peyton Manning threw for 330 passing yds & 4 TD's while WR Demaryius Thomas had 7 receptions for 108 yds & 3 TD's. Philip Rivers had 218 yds & 1 TD. p.s. ESPN: A beat up Manning misses practice. I'm just saying, just got it on my cell.

San Diego Chargers: 4-5:

The Chargers took on the Denver Broncos on Sunday and yep, they lost. You can read about it in Denver's recap.

Oakland Raiders: 3-6:
Sorry Oakland Fans, I missed The Raiders on WEEK 9 update. My apologies.   Nothing personal. :o). But I did add their lost to the NY Giants Sunday, 24-20. You can read about that in the NYG recap.

After WEEK 10
Still standing as the ONLY undefeated team in the NFL:

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS.

After WEEK 10 -
Still hanging over a cliff without a single win and all alone to boot:

*Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 0-8
(Remember the MNF & TNF games are a week behind. Any wins by any teams that week are not accounted for on this update)

OFF THE FIELD:

$1·         Packers Jermichael Finley to undergo spinal fusion surgery.

$1·         Texans Arian Foster will have back surgery next week and miss the rest of the season.

$1·         Titans QB Jake Locker suffered a Lisfranc injury in his right foot and is out for the season.

$1·         Bears Tillman out for the season with triceps injury. He is out for the season as well. Chris says his contract is up this year. Will he be back?  I sure hope so!

$1·         QB Jay Cutler is out with a high ankle sprain. He is week to week.

Trivia for WEEK 10:

How many NFL teams have used more than one QB this season?

Trivia for WEEK 9:

What is the Highest Scoring Game in the NFL, the teams & the year?

I had several correct answers on this question:

The Cleveland Browns Vs. The Cinncinnati Bengals, November 28th, 2004. The Bengals 58 - The Browns 48.  Total of 106 points.
